Virginia

The pictures in these photo albums were taken in Virginia, specifically in Shenandoah National Park in the fall of 2006 and the early spring of 2007. These albums feature photos from the Keyser Run Fire Road-Little Devils Stairs circuit, Whiteoak Canyon, Millers Head overlook, and the Rapidan Camp-Laurel Prong-Hazeltop loop.

Bear country, to be sure.

These pictures stand in stark contrast to the desolate, dry, exposed landscape of the Colorado Plateau that is captured in the vast majority of Joe’s other hiking photos. Nevertheless, the Shenandoah Valley is a gorgeous retreat from the snarling traffic and glass skyscraper corridors of metro DC. (Seriously, architects, enough with the glass buildings and those pointless tiara things that you ceaselessly use to top them, for some reason.)
