When he is not running, which is not that often, Joe occasionally spends his time hiking with his wife Kelly. Together, they have completed a variety of day hikes in Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park, as well as in the many parks scattered throughout Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona.
In addition, Joe and Kelly have backpacked in the Grand Canyon twice (one classic South Rim; one North Rim to South Rim transverse), and they spent their ten-year wedding anniversary on a multi-day camping trip in Haleakalā crater.
These webpages offer some selected photos from these various trips. These pages are, it should be noted, a work in progress. Joe’s future hiking plans range from the attainable (camping in Bryce Canyon) to the slightly extravagant (spending several days in The Maze) to the likely unlikely (a full Appalachian Trail completion).
Maybe as his PR racing performances start to recede into the background, some of these seemingly less likely hiking trips will become more likely. Who is to say?
No matter what, there will be more pictures, so feel free to bookmark this page!
